I encountered a problem because some of the sites that I maintain have a large amount of registered users. The question was how to move all my users to this new blog. Because of WP MU transferring the database as it was wasn’t an answer. Luckily I found a plugin that could do this for me namely Cimy User Manager. With Cimy User Manager you can export and import your users to a whole new multisite installation. Easy, huh?

With multisite you can have numerous WordPress blogs under one installation. During this moving process I encountered one big problem. When I exported and then imported my files using WordPress export/import function I found out that my import file was too big to handle. When I uploaded it I got only some of my articles and files imported and that was frustrating. Biggest problem was that only 50-80% of files that were attached to posts were downloaded to this new installation. After some Googling I found this very useful program called WordPress WXR File Splitter. With that you can split your import file in as many parts as you want and then import those files one at a time. Simple as that!
